Workshop Description:

This workshop will compare ethical standards for ASL interpreters throughout the years here in the USA as well as other countries. We’ll gain a historical perspective on why ethical standards have evolved. We will also discuss the reason ethics are important and what may be lacking in our current RID Code of Professional Conduct.

Educational Objectives:

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Explain changes in ethical standards historically
  • Articulate changes that need to happen in their own professional behavior
  • Identify ethical standards that could be added to the current Professional Code of Conduct

Presenter Bio:

Chanté J. Wilson has been working as an interpreter since 2003. She has had the privilege of working in many interpreting settings including government, community, theatrical and medical though her favorite setting is higher education. She is also the proud founder of Zaboosh. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and a Master's degree in Instructional Design and Educational Technology. Chanté is passionate about learning and can often be found tinkering with a new type of software, acquiring a new skill or scoping out her next educational endeavor. She also loves spending time with her amazingly supportive family.
