Criminal Trial A-Z Part 2

Criminal Trial A-Z Part 2

Regular price $45.00 Sale

This workshop was originally streamed live on December 9, 2017.

RID CEUs: 0.3 PS (Legal)

Workshop Language: Spoken English (CC)

Cost: $45

Workshop Description:

The Criminal Trial is core to the American legal system. Interpreters tend to be intimidated by the idea of interpreting for a trial. But unlike medical interpreting, where anything could happen, the trial is strictly choreographed. It follows a set procedure designed to protect the constitutional rights of the accused. Understanding the purpose and protocol of each set step of the trial will reduce interpreter stress and protect the rights of the accused. In this workshop, we will walk through the criminal trial, using video samples, and explain the purposes and pitfalls of each phase of the process from police interview to jury instructions. In part two we will continue where we left off ending with a discussion on juvenile court.

Educational Objectives:

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • List the proper questions to ask in preparation for a criminal trial Appointment;
  • Demonstrate how to use preexisting knowledge and context to know the terms and process of a police interview, hearing, and trial;
  • Explain how to use readily available legal education materials to build their knowledge base;
  • Role-play and participate in practical skill building exercises using the materials now available; and,
  • Create a study plan for knowledge and skill building moving forward
