Workshop Description:

This workshop is designed for interpreters who usually understand most of the signed message but routinely miss the fingerspelled word. This class does not include expressive fingerspelling practice.  Topics include:  myths related to fingerspelled word recognition, cognitive processing and memory as they relate to fingerspelled word recognition, rapid serial visual processing. The goal is to introduce strategies that will lead to improved fingerspelled word recognition on the first try. This workshop is based on Fingerspelled Word Recogntion through Rapid Serial Visual Processing.

Educational Objectives:

At the conclusion of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Describe the importance of RSVP and template building in fingerspelled word recognition
  • Describe successful interaction with the RSVP computer program.
