Workshop Description:
In this workshop, learners will be exposed to the intersectionality between Kinesiology and Sign Language, in general. The main content of this workshop will center around concepts such as, basic biomechanical & ergonomic principles, movement production & nativity, along with injury prevention & career longevity. Presentation style is highly interactive and will include devoted time for guided-practice and immediate application of knowledge. The unique aspect of this workshop is in its approach to language and movement through the use of hands-on exercises, immediate feedback return, and application of real-world knowledge transfer.
Workshop Objectives:
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define new movement vocabulary and principles by defining new concepts
- Discuss their movement habits and tendencies in a safe space
- Describe strategies for improving faculty of movement and apply to signing
- Incorporate self-evaluation/awareness tools, and rehabilitation/ prevention modalities necessary for career longevity
