Inside the Mind of a Successful Interpreter: K-12

Workshop Description:
To be Inside the Mind of a Successful K-12 Interpreter, preparation for the assignment, before, during, and after is important. Strategies to achieve success will be examined and discussed.
Workshop Objectives:
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
- evaluate how to successfully be a K-12 Interpreters.
- analyze complex and challenging K-12 situations.
Presenter Bio:
Lamar Ray was born and raised in Buffalo NY and attended St. Mary's School for the Deaf(SMSD). He graduated from RIT, with a BS in Psychology/Sociology/Deaf Studies. He has an Advanced certificate in (TESOL)Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Certification in Deaf Blind Interpreting.
For over 20 years Lamar has been a DI/CDI interpreter and instructor of American Sign Language and Deaf Studies including SUNY Fredonia and Brockport NY. Lamar has Co-taught Ethics, medical and Legal training for interpreters at Holyoke Community College(HCC), Holyoke, MA and worked at Bedford HS as an ASL teacher in Bedford, NH. Lamar is currently a Director of Interpreting Training in Cirrus Inc.
He has also done Interpreter and Translation training at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Manchester. In addition to many ASL and interpreting workshops, he has been used extensively in many ASL translation projects. His articles on Deaf culture have been published in the national RID Views.
