Workshop Description:
Interpreting is a practice-based profession that requires intentional, ongoing effort to strengthen and refine our skills. Deliberate Practice provides a structured and purposeful approach to skill development, helping interpreters identify areas for growth and apply targeted strategies for improvement.
In this workshop, participants will gain an introduction to the principles of Deliberate Practice and explore practical techniques for incorporating these methods into their interpreting work. Through guided discussion and application, attendees will learn how to create meaningful practice routines that support both day-to-day performance and long-term professional growth.
Participants will analyze their own interpreting performance, identify skill gaps, and learn how to apply targeted techniques to support meaningful and measurable growth. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a starting point for implementing Deliberate Practice in their own work.

Workshop Objectives:

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define Deliberate Practice and how it applies to the interpreting profession
  • Identify strategies to perform Deliberate Practice and how to implement them into their daily work.
  • Analyze their own interpreting product to identify areas of improvement
  • Create an action plan for their own Deliberate Practice
