Workshop Description:

This session focuses on building stronger connections with immigrant families of Deaf and hard of hearing children. Together we will explore cultural and language considerations, share tools for effective communication, and highlight resources that help families thrive.

Workshop Objectives:

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key cultural and linguistic barriers immigrant families with Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children often encounter.
  • Apply culturally responsive strategies to engage immigrant families and build trust.
  • Demonstrate effective communication approaches for collaborating with families who use multiple spoken and signed languages.
