Connecting the Dots: Breathing, Intra-Personal Fortitude and Inter-Personal Connection
Workshop Description:
If you have ever struggled with recovering from a bad interpreting day, an unfulfilling assignment, or unexpected emotional triggers during the work, this workshop is for you! Come discover how to establish patterns and habits of overcoming setbacks. Breathing can center us in our own abilities and mindset. Intrapersonal dialogue plants the seeds of success or failure and resilience leads to recovery from those setbacks and disappointments. Finally, constructively, and vulnerably sharing our experiences with others can normalize and support the imperfect nature of our interpreting work and experiences. Let’s connect these dots together!
Workshop Objectives:
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Recall and apply 3 breathing techniques (Ex: Box, hand tracing, and deep belly breaths) that ground and create space in a difficult moment.
- Identify 2 patterns of self-talk that create a roadblock to successful interpreting moments; create a strategy for removing those roadblocks that can be applied in the next month.
- Create a 2-3 sentence, scripted dialogue starter, for sharing challenging interpreting moments with a client, team interpreter, mentor, or trusted confidant.
