Workshop Description:

ASL is evolving and advancing as all natural languages do. Often times interpreters may see a sign for the first time while interpreting and may struggle to interpret it accurately. We'll delve into dozens of popular signs used by fluent members of the Deaf community.

Presenter Bio:

Deaf since birth, a native ASL user, and an active member of the Deaf community, Erik Hoover has been teaching ASL for the past six years and recently received a Master’s of Science degree in ASL/English Interpreting from the University of North Florida. Although he is currently teaching hearing students advanced ASL, he has experience participating in language advisory panels and collaborating with the Assistant District Attorney as a language expert. An avid educator and ASL enthusiast, Erik is constantly involved in applied linguistics discussions in regards to ASL/English interpretation and pedagogy.
