Workshop Description:
Preparing for work in theater, music and behind the camera takes extra attention and a good deal of dissections. In this workshop, we will explore the translation process in these three areas, as they are very different in how they’re approached. This workshop will include some hands-on experience. Participants can also expect some bonus tips and tricks in working the grand world of theater, music and behind the camera!
Workshop Objectives:
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain how to dissect language in preparation for working in three different areas: theater, music and behind the camera.
- Articulate basic translation rules, including the use of translation style guides.
- Demonstrate how to incorporate meaningful and effective non-manual markers into the translation process and ultimately into their work.
Presenter Bio:
Susan Layton, from Las Vegas but currently living in Utah, has been an interpreter for over 30 years. Throughout her life, she has studied theater and theater interpreting, music interpreting, translation and camera work. Co-Founder of Access Simplified, she and her team work every day on what matters most - communication. Susan loves the mountains and snorkeling, and if caught daydreaming, she’s actually staring in the eyes of the beautiful marine life from the North Shore of O’ahu. … Oh ... right … Anyhow, she believes in finding the good in oneself, others and life, saying sorry and eliminating (or ignoring if you have to) the option to give up.
