Navigating for Success as a Higher Education Faculty Member
Workshop Description:
ASL and Interpreter Education can be found across a wide range of higher education institutions, each with their own culture and faculty positions. The specific combination of faculty position type and institutional type/culture has important implications for faculty work expectations and requirements for reappointment, tenure, and/or promotion. After gaining an understanding of institutional and faculty position characteristics, participants will identify their preferred work environment and will chart a path to employment and retention in their preferred positions.
Presenter Bio:
Dr. Hale’s mission is to improve the lives of Deaf people through improvement of ASL-English interpreter education. She does this using mixed-methods to study working and learning in post-secondary interpreter education programs. Dr. Kimberly Hale is a tenured Associate Professor at Eastern Kentucky University. She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with a focus on higher education. She also holds a MA in Linguistics from the University of South Carolina, and a BA in Sign Language Interpreting from Maryville College in Tennessee.
