Workshop Description:
Val Sturm, a certified Sign Language interpreter, and Elena Patton, a certified Spanish medical interpreter, will co-present on the linguistic and cultural challenges of interpreted settings that include both deaf signers and foreign language speakers.
Educational Objectives:
At the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe 5 linguistic challenges in a multilingual setting as analyzed from a Demand/Control Schema perspective.
- Identify 5 cultural demands that arise in a multicultural setting.
- Analyze sample interactions.
